Officer Brett Visits Our Classroom

Officer Brett Lindemuth is the Richmond School Resource Officer (SRO). He spends Wednesdays at RES. This Wednesday, he visited our kindergarten classroom. He explained his uniform and talked with the children about the  many tools that he carries on his vest and belt. He stayed in the classroom to hear the story about "Officer Buckles and Gloria". We all agreed that Officer Buckles and Officer Brett have many of the same safety rules in school.

Read to Others

During our Reading Time, students have been learning about "Read to Self" and "Read to Others". Here are scholars demonstrating some of the skills they have learned when they read with each other. You will see students sitting  "Elbow to Elbow and Knee to Knee (EEKK)" and holding books so that both partners can see.

Classroom Activity

Students have been busy exploring, building, creating and learning in kindergarten. Here are some picture of  students working at Centers Time one day last week.

A Visit to the School Garden

On Friday afternoon, we explored the school garden that is behind Camel's Hump Middle School. Ms. Capman-Renaud met us and taught us about some of the food in the garden. She told us which plants that we could smell and which plants we could taste. Many of the plants that grow in the garden are used in our school cafeteria. We hope to pick some vegetables to make vegetable soup in a few weeks.

The garden is always open. Families are welcome to stop in and see what is growing any time.

Reading in Our Kindergarten Classroom

It's the eighth day in kindergarten and already our class reading time is very productive. Each of the students has a reading bag. In their reading bag are four or five emergent reader and picture books as well as one ABC book. We will be adding and removing books throughout the year. Soon, every student will have books at their "just right" reading level.

Kindergarten students have learned that there are three ways to read a book:

   --- Read the pictures.
   --- Read the words.
   --- Retell the story.
