On Wednesday afternoon, the students in our classroom learned about bees from a local community member. Jackie Wintersteen is a friend of mine and a retired RES kindergarten teacher. She arrived and I introduced her as "The Queen Bee". She brought several props, including pictures, a real honeycomb from a hive, a smoker and a bee keepers headgear. She had the children act out the roles of bees in the hive. She also had a taste of honey for all of us. Did you know that a bee only makes about one teaspoon of honey in it's lifetime?!?
